I was going over the lesson for the church today even though I couldn’t be there and found it inspiring and fitting for life in general. It was from President Hinckley’s book for the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter-Day Saints, but it fits all walks of spirituality truly. After all, we are not put on Earth to just walk through life blindly or just to be barely getting by. Or as the saying goes, “Life is a journey, not a destination.”
We are meant to learn and explore our world and universe at length. Not just in science and math but in thought and fiction as well. We are meant to read about the people we look up to and learn from them as well as the great figures in history. Along with learning from the fiction, we read from as well. Along with educating our minds on whatever work we choose to do in life so long as it is honorable.
Even if you are a clerk read up on it and be the best clerk you can be. But, I would dare you to dream bigger and go for what your passion is. You are given that passion for a reason. I encourage you to follow it into college and beyond. It will ensure you enjoy your work along with enjoying studying it. But, learn about the world around you as well through books and magazines at the same time.
And, even as you do this remember to continue to educate your spirit with religious texts for whatever spiritual path you follow so as to keep our conscience and heart close to you in all that you do. Secular and Spiritual Studies are meant to go hand in hand not one or the other. They are like Ying and Yang to each other. Balancing each other out when combined.
Though too often we trumpet one over the other, and that causes us to lose part of ourselves in the process. Balance is key in all of life. Look at how key it is in nature. That should be the starting point to knowing you need both kinds of learning. And, learning can be fun when you make it that way. You just have to find how you learn best and incorporate that into your learning.
It can be with games, documentaries, writing, and reading, or even some other way. But, whatever way it is enjoy it and learn as much as you can. I also encourage you to share what you learn with others as well. As we share with each other we both learn more along with enjoying each other’s company. We are not only helping each other but also helping ourselves at the same time.
But, I have rambled enough for one Sunday. Feel free to leave questions and comments below. As for me, I have some podcasts to listen to as well as school work to be working on along with getting some bookshelves together with my mom. God Bless and have a blessed Sunday. *Tips his hat and walks out the door*.
